Dr. Stefan Birmanns

Stefan Birmanns, Ph.D. has been appointed to the faculty following a successful three-year assignment as a post-doctoral associate in the laboratory of Dr. Willy Wriggers at the UT School of Health Information Sciences.  His appointment as Assistant Professor of Health Informatics, effective July 1, 2006, recognizes his valuable contributions to the three-part mission of the school – research, teaching and community service.

Dr. Birmanns’ work focuses on several areas of study: biocomputing, molecular modeling, virtual reality, hepatic rendering, visualization, macromolecular machines, and image processing.

He received his doctorate in Computer Science from the Univeristy of Aachen in Germany in 2003.  His honors include the award of a pre-doctoral fellowship at the Helmholtz Foundation, Germany  from 1999-2003 as well a post-doctoral fellowship at the W.M. Keck Center, Computational Structural Biology Program in Houston from 2004-2006
